GEMSTONES and HINDU ASTROLOGY

Hindu Astrology is a very deep and wonderful supra science. It is based on continuous planetary movement over the sky. The native’s fate is sealed at the time of his ‘Birth’ only because of certain planetary positions in particular nakshatras. Several outstanding classics are written to explain and decode the actual meaning of these combinations. A true astrologer predicts the past and upcoming events of a native and suggests the best course of action.

The Prediction of sequence of events are one part of whole story.  Among nine planets only two planets viz. Jupiter and Venus are all time benefics, whereas rest of 7 planets are either malefics or conditional malefics. No Doubt, whoever is born in this Kaliyuga is struggling with one or other problem. Hence, remedial aspect of astrology has also become the integral part of Hindu Astrology. Eventually all events are governed by planets, therefore the best way to enhance the auspicious effects or mitigate the inauspicious effects is to alter the energy of Planets which is possible only through Gem Stones.

The Great Classic ‘JatakaParajita’ in sloka 21has summarised the gemstones associated with each planet. The Ruby  is the Sun’s Precious Stone, a pure spotless pearl is that of Moon, Coral belongs to Mars, Mercury’s precious stone is emerald, Topaz belongs to Jupiter, Venus owns Diamond, Saturn’s stone is stainless sapphire, Gomed and cat’s eye for Rahu and Keturespectively. Similarly another classic ‘BrihatSamhita’ also gives a detailed account of characteristics of precious gem stones.

Now the questions arises ‘how these gemstones work’. The so called rational thinkers and researchers in the west have already carried out several experiments to prove that these Stones certainly carry powerful planetary energies. To my understanding, they work on ‘colour’ principle. Our ancient sages in their research found out that Sun is of ‘Orange Colour’, Mars is of ‘ Red Colour’, Mercury is of ‘green’, Moon is ‘Off-white’ and Venus is ‘Bright White’. The Colour of Saturn is black, whereas Rahu resembles the smoke. Hence the gemstones of a particular colour also contain the similar energy that of a planet.

The best way to tap the positive or ward-off the negative energy of a planets only lies in wearing a suitable Gemstone. That is only source available in ‘Earth’ to store the planetary energies. Wearing the Gemstones attracts the energy of a planet into the Human body and thus positive energy gets channelized through our nervous system. For instance, for a native is born in ‘Sagittarius’ Lagna, Jupiter becomes the Lagna Lord and most important Karaka. If Jupiter is not well placed in chart i.e in 6th, 8th or 12th houses and associated with malefic combinations, then Health of that native always suffers. In order to improve the health, there is need to strengthen Jupiter energy by wearing ‘Yellow Sapphire’.

Similarly, if moon is weak in the chart, ‘Sea Pearl’can do wonders. It stabilises the mind and improve the mood swings. ‘Green emerald’ absorbs the positive energy to mercury which is karaka for Success in education. It also improves concentration. The confusion of ‘Rahu’ energy gets stabilised through ‘Gomed’ gemstone. Saturn is karakafor hard work and career, hence saturn’s energy brings lot of stability in day-today affairs. 

KARMA and GEMSTONES

The destiny of a Native is more or less fixed by planetary positions. The various Yogas in the chart define the extent of happiness or miseries in an individual life. The Vimshottari Dasha indicates the favourable and unfavourable time periods. When Dasha of a Rajayoga planet operates, one can expect lot of success, accumulation of wealth, happiness through friends, relatives and spouse. 

However, Hindu shastras also emphasise on ‘KARMA’ principle. In ‘Bhagvada Gita’ Lord Krishna has explained the importance of Karma. Through good or bad KARMA, one can alter the course of destiny in his favour or invite more miseries. Even a highly intelligent native can not secure top rank without spending hours of hours in studies. These Gemstones actually make an individual to work in right direction and do right ‘KARMA’ to ensure success. For instance, the lord of ‘Bhagyasthana’ is always a very auspicious planet in any chart. It is usually accepted that wearing the gemstone of 9th lord can strengthen the ‘Fortune’ of a native. But even for one’s fortune to produce the positive results, one needs to do his ‘KARMA’. In nutshell, there is no substitute to ‘Hard Work’. 

PLANETS, RASHI and GEMSTONE

RULES TO RECOMMEND GEMSTONES

Gemstone recommendation is a very tricky affair. It requires years of experience and deep knowledge of Hindu astrology science. Every astrologer has his own way of prescribing these precious stones. However, the general rules are summarised here.

1. The ‘Karaka’ planets in the chart can be safely prescribed. In every chart, lord of trikona houses i.e 1st, 5th and 9th are auspicious. Hence, the gemstone associated with these lords can certainly bring positive results. For Instance, a native born in Cancer Lagna, lords of trikona houses are Moon, Mars and Jupiter respectively. Hence Pearl, Red Coral and yellow sapphire can be recommended.
2. Some Astrologers recommend gemstones for malefic planets which I do not agree personally. It involves lot of risk. Sometimes negative effects can also be experienced in this case.
3. Any human body consists of three HumorsvizVaata, Pitta and Kapha. The planets are also associated with these three humors. Sun and mars belong to Pitta; Venus, Jupiter and Moon belong to Kapha and Saturn belongs to Vaatahumor. Mercury is associated with all three humors. Moon has also some element of Vaata. Any imbalance with these three humors causes diseases associated with them. For Instance, High Fever is connected with Pitta Dosha, hence gemstones of Sun or mars may be prescribed. Joint pain is domain of VattaDosha and in that case Saturn’s stone can be prescribed.
4. The gemstones must be worn in your working Hand. So if someone is right handed, all gemstones should be worn in fingers of Right Hand. Again, in palmistry every finger is associated with a planet. Index Finger or Tarjani  is allotted to Jupiter, Middle finger to Saturn, Ring Finger or Anamika to Surya and Little Finger or Kanisthika to Mercury. Therefore the gemstones of Particular planets should be worn in that finger only. Since no finger is allotted to Moon, Rahu, Ketu mars and Venusin palmistry, the finger can be selected based on friendship. Stones for Rahu and Ketu should be worn in Middle Finger. Red coral should be worn in Ring Finger and Pearl in Little Finger.
5. Regarding metals, any pure metal such as Copper, Silver and Gold can be prescribed for Rings. However, the prescribed metals are given below for each gemstone.

GEMSTONES and CURE OF DISEASES

Every planet is associated with certain diseases occurring in the Human Body. Based on affliction of particular planet in the chart, suitable gemstone can be prescribed. Similarly every planet is associated with certain system of the body. The following table lists out the planet and associated body parts and elements.

In order to cure the affliction to a particular body system, suitable stone can be recommended as given above. Let me explain with an example. Suppose a native has problem with the Skin, or nervous system, the gemstone of mercury may be prescribed. Somebody struggling with joint pains can get relief by wearing Blue Sapphire (Gemstone of Saturn). The problem of Urine infection can be controlled by wearing Venus gemstones.
